I know I have been quite inactive the past month, alot of private stuff going on and upcoming exams, but I will try to be more active again from now on. Microsoft Employees Disrupt Wii U Best Buy EventsRemember how Nintendo was showcasing some of their E3 games at participating Best Buy stores around the country? Well, apparently Microsoft employees have been hired to go to these events and preach about the Xbox One and make comments like "why would you buy a outdated Wii U when the Xbox One is right around the corner?"
However, the employees aren't getting what they hoped for. Most customers just start bashing the Xbox One in response. Seriously, Microsoft, the people attending these Best Buy Wii U events are people who are intimately familiar with the crap you pulled at E3. They ain't takin' your shit.
At first I thought this might just be a case of one really loyal Microsoft employee taking matters into his own hands (especially since the original source was /v/), but reports have come in from numerous Best Buy's around the country that indicate many Microsoft employees have ambushed the demo lines trying to persuade people to switch to the Xbox One.

The Used Game ParadigmOver the course of this past generation I've been watching the video game market react to the way it's been forced to deal with increasing changes. I've come out against used game sales and even written a journal about boycotting GameStop because (like most people at the time) I believed they were the root cause of all the problems the video game industry has. But that's something I don't believe now as intently as i did then. From where I sit, piracy and used games sales are a problem, but not in the way game companies want us to believe that they are.
Used games are a good thing for consumers. We get to try games out, and if we don't like what we see or finish it early, we trade it in and try another title instead. It's a very good system for us since video game rentals are much harder to come by. Most video rental stores in America have gone extinct and outside specific Red Box Kiosks there aren't a lot of places for consumers to rent video games. The exception, of course, being thr

Please Pants Responsibly (Paper Notebooks FTW)

There are two ways to write a novel. Plotting (you make an outline, a plan, a roadmap if you will, and then you sit down and write it) and pantsing (you write "by the seat of your pants, throwing caution to the wind). So when I get asked if I'm a plotter or a pantser, I'm all like er, uh, hold on, let me? Pantser? I think? But I kind of, um, do planny things?
And it gets kind of awkward because in these inarticulate moments I have managed to confuse everyone including myself. And probably spilled a drink.
In recent discussions, however, I've had a bit of a revelation, silly as it is. I've realized that I -- like many writers -- am a plotter/pantser hybrid. And perhaps what I'm doing is something we could call Pantsing Responsibly. And, maybe, just maybe, I could share some of my responsible pantsing tips with other writers. Starting with paper notebooks.

SPIKE updatesJust thought I'd share with you guys some updates on the progress of finishing my "SPIKE" novel.

I'm going to EVERFREE NORTHWEST!

Even though the biggest pony convention on the West Coast is sold out, a little bird was kind enough to offer me admission and a table at what is sure to be incredible and awesome in every way! In fact, if you surf over to the Everfree NorthWest website right now you can see a certain silly filly is adorning the official countdown clock. Obviously someone offered her beer!

I'm kind of struggling to figure out the logistics of getting my merchandise there, buying plane tickets, scheduling vacation time, etc.

This week I'm trying to prepare for Trotcon and stressing a bit with how quickly its arrived. After Bronycon it felt like I had all the time in the world, now its next week, and I've got a ton of stuff to do, make, and several big projects on my plate to finish up. And then, it's bare knuckle boxing followed by extreme alligator spooning and bowling for knives. Because ADVENTURE!

This is the unfortunately the part in the journal where I have to apologize to folks who have sent me emails comments or inquiries here on DA or Twitter or Tumblr, or via smoke signal lately. I am up to my neck in preparation again and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible! I feel bad that I'm constantly in a state of chaos, rushing from one convention or project to another, but I will do my best to respond properly...albeit at an indefinite point in the near future!

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer! Hope to see lots of you next weekend at Trotcon or next month at Everfree NW or Canterlot Gardens in September.
