Hi everyone and everypony!  I’m finding it difficult to believe that in less than a week we’ll be waist deep in the Friendship is Magic season finale.  It seems like just the other day we were fangasming over the season premier.  Now, here we are, 24 episodes down and but a pair remain.  This season has been amazing.  So much more than any of us really expected.  The return of Luna, tons of Derpy, Lyra and Bon Bon hanging out, an unexpected Trixie shout-out, Dragons, more griffins, Time Travel, masked crusaders, self-help minotaurs, and plenty of incontrovertible proof that all the ponies in this town really ARE are crazy.

It’s been a brilliant season and a wonderful experience. We’re awash in conventions and gatherings; we have show-accurate toys and favorite background characters to look forward to.  Derpy’s name was spoken and she was given voice.  Together we’ve accomplished tremendous amounts good through efforts such as the Humble Brony Bundle.

But likewise, our not-so-little community has suffered its share of growing pains.  Controversy sprouted up with Pony Archive and Derpy’s brief appearance in The Last Roundup became a lightning rod of unwanted attention.  We saw plenty of bronies behaving badly as jealousy, cruelty, and divisiveness crept in amongst our credo of love and tolerance.  I’ve seen websites, groups, and fans turn against each other, pointing fingers and attempting to be, for lack of a better term, bronier than thou.

I’ve often said that more than anything else, I want to see the pony fandom continue to represent the best aspects of the show.  I want us to show our love by being our very best and exemplifying kindness and virtue and a sense of community.  I do understand that it’s naïve to think any large, anonymous group of people on the internet will be holistically reasonable and nice.  But certainly as a community we are in control of the behaviors and social mores that we encourage AND discourage.  In-fighting, mistreatment of fellow fans, and cruelty should be the exception, never the rule.

In the end, I have no (and should have no) control over the actions of others.  But for my own part I will continue to do what I can to foster the fandom, the community, and a world that is just and good and tolerant and kind.  When I sit down to watch the new episode of My Little Pony, I am seven years old again.  I am filled with hope and optimism and cheer and sugar-frosted cereal.  I do my best to hold onto that feeling and carry it with me wherever I go. Through the summer, through season three and beyond.

Here’s to two amazing seasons, 52 joyful episodes, and thousands of absolutely brilliant fans and friends united in the magic of friendship.
