people hated her, over-protective soccer moms called her offensive and got her booted from the show. fans of her brought her back for a while, but as of season 4, she's canned for good. according to the post i read anyway
Hey! I really really liked this one. I'm a mod for a community that makes the digital version of stencils so people can cut them out and spray them on stuff. I made a stencil version of this. hope that's okay. anyways, thought I'd let you know about it. [link]
This is all I can say... Its Just not right, I was appalled "it" offended some select few in the first place. Derpy was never meant to be negative. But some has misused the word in a negative way, which may have affected the few viewers of the show which then prompted the producers to make the change to our beloved character in the first place. We need to change the meaning of it, and we already have within the community, we just need to do the same with the rest of the world. Derpy will forever be our baby. HAPPY DERPY DAY!!
If Hasbro has half a brain they'll keep the character, there are so many stereotypes on the show it as a whole should be cancelled as a result of it's offensive nature to southerners, stuck up snobbish types, bookworms, people with ADD and so on.
The whole SAVE DERPY thing is just blown out of whack.
All this, 'Goodbye Derpy', 'PLEASE SAVE HER!!!" and whatnot is kind of over the top.
She is NOT going anywhere if you think about it.
Season 2 is pretty much done already, we got the say from the animators which is alright, she's fine. Plus I think that only this episode she was in, is the only one where she talked and had a semi important role.
Season 3 though, who knows.
Still, though, with all of this, the one Derpy that is truly 'in danger' is Canon Derpy but FANON Derpy is totally safe.
What, are all you artists going to stop drawing Derpy, stop making music, comics, and write fics? Has Hasbro ordered you all to cease doing anything Derpy related?
NO OF COURSE NOT! Derpy will still be in comics, art, music and writing for months to come. This whole thing is just crazy!
Though I don't agree with what they done with the episode, it doesn't mean anything really cause we the fans are more in control of Derpy since we practically created her.
Bronies are an overreacting ticking time bomb I swear.
Actually, I like the new voice more. It is much closer to what I always imagined Derpy sounding like, while reading all those fan comics and stories. But the removal of her name without even substituting is THE! WORST! THING! EVER!
Like I've said on other posts, the best way for Hasboro to see our displeasure is to affect them where it counts. Don't buy the Itoons episode. A lot of us have a copy of the original version anyway. When they see that the sells are down for that episode they'll listen. I'm sure a tone of unhappy consumers holding on to their bits will make changes quicker than writing hate mail about it.
I don't get it! She was just a clumsy girl that caused humorous accidents. I mean Ed from Ed,Edd, n Eddy sounded like he had Downs Syndrome and he did the exact same stuff as Derpy but no one pitched a fit about his personality or antics and he was a main character for the full 5 seasons of the show!
I don't understand why so many people are so butt-hurt over a cartoon character that most of the community love, and if they're going to change what we have come to love, then it shouldn't exist anymore, I love Derpy, she's one of my favourite things to happen to this show, but if it has to come to this; taking away what the mojority of the fandom loves, then she's not canon/fanon to me anymore.
Someone apparently let discord out of his stone prison just so they could reek havoc on us. I don't even know if I want the friendship express DVD for my birthday now... Did they put the edited version on the DVD? Cause if so, I'm not buying it.
Great poster btw. Just wish apple/iTunes would cut the bull crap
Careful! The 1st wave of DVDs was released with a little audio desync, and they are offering to change it for a "fixed" version. They say that only the de-sync will be altered, but I won't be sure until I see Derpy intact.
I don't want to live on this planet any more. ¬___________¬
But I really do not understand the logic in going to all the trouble of re-dubbing her voice, editing out her name and reanimating her eyes for the sake of an iTunes release. As I understand it, the DVD is going to remain unaltered? And for what? The sake appeasing a few over-reactors that have likely forgotten about this scene by now anyway. Was the fuss kicked up by the bronie and pegasister community in return not even acknowledged? Last I checked, the 'Save Derpy Hooves' petition had an unbelievable amount of signatures. How depressing.
I think it's the un-derping of her eyes that bothers me the most. Surely removing the 'disability' that people were claiming was being ridiculed on top of changing her voice and removing her name is just as offensive as what the PC-brigade were complaining about in the first place! Well I'd like to tell Hasbro and all the idiots that caused this fuss in the first place that you have offended me. Unlike most of the ponies in the show, Derpy wasn't perfect; she had 'imperfect' physical features and was always getting things wrong, but she kept on smiling and giving it her very best - a pony that the 'less perfect' of us could relate to! Now what? She's just a generic, if slightly clumsy, regular pony and that really sucks. I am very disappoint.
If Hasbro did what they did to appease both parties, then they failed, miserably. It's not fair for them. Studio B did this in the first place to make us fans go crazy with fanatical happiness. And now Hasbro's getting completely undeserved flack. Those adults who think that Derpy's offensive need to stop being invertebrates and realize that it's not going to "offend" millions of people into committing suicide.
I hate her new voice, because it doesn't fit and if these idiot parents are like that, then why not complain about the website Derp.Memebase.com from Cheezburger.com? Those people have just no life and fun. I'm really disappointed and I will love her only as the old Derpy and not the new Ditzy Doo.
I hate to be that guy, but, honestly, I found the original voice to be a bit odd. Not odd in the same way of people having a problem with it. Just...odd. The new clip just makes her sound like they sped up the playback by a small amount.
I would Daaaw but I still a bit annoyed because of the news. The new voice is ok and It wouldn't bother me if they kept it but Derpy's name and eyes being changed really got to me. Bronies and Pegasisters gotta stick together. Bro hoof /)
As the actor John Cleese succintly put it, and eloaquently I might add: "People are so stupid that they really don't know exactly just HOW stupid they are."
What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is the classic "knee jerk reaction" syndrome. Now, anyone on here please correct me on any misinformation or ignorance I might have over the subject, but I think we have the one who we called "trolls" to thank for this. My guess is that they were able to find another avenue to go for....and it happened to be Apple. Being another large company that has to cater to a VERY large group of people Hasbro had to make some changes.
I cannot blame them for this, not at all. They are a corporation that has their own needs and worries, and those needs and worries involve mass amounts of people. The problem is that, when you start dealing in mass amounts of people, you get a hive mind effect of arrogance, stupidity, and downright reverse darwinism. So, rather than have to deal with that, Apple at this point, and possibly Hasbro in the future, had to make a choice.
That choice has affected a character that we have all grown to love...and we are not only saddened but outright hurt and near crushed over it. Hell, it hurts even worse because it's a character that we as fans litterally helped to create. We were given a power the likes of which we haven't had before, at least, not so directly. And hell, it was all an accident that turned into damn near a miracle.
So, I guess the point I'm trying to make is this: it's FUBAR exactly what's been happening in regards to Derpy, it really is. And what makes it sadder is that, as far as my understanding goes, it was brought on by people who were either offended without REALLY thinking about WHY they were offended and what that meant..or just a bunch of sorry people who had nothing better to do that be pissed off about something they never had anything to do with. Don't be that person...hell, don't let anyone close to you ever be that person. It degrades us, not only as the Brony community, but as the human race in general.
HEY GUYS IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A FUCKING DEAL I love MLP, but you know what? No matter HOW good any show is, I am not going to start stupid drama and outrage over a change to a 45 second gag scene. I'm so fucking disappointed in this fandom right now.
Relax, relax. Now, let me give you my personal opinion.
I think it IS that of a big deal. Because the first Bronies where the ones that actually created Derpy. Yes, the character in-show was an animation mistake/joke or whatever, but the Bronies adopted her and basically gave her a soul.
This Brony phenomenon basically happened by mistake, mere coincidence. But it started to grow and grow, people started to like and love the show, got hooked, and joined the Brony community. But it annoyed some people too, and it got banned where it originated, just because those other people.
Derpy is just like this. She was found by mistake, mere coincidence, but everyone loved her. She started to appear more and more, until it finally got a significant appearance. She was named. She spoke. She was further acknowledged by the show's staff. The fans exploded of happiness. The creators and the watchers build something beautiful and amazing. But some people felt offended. They where like a black dot in a white canvas. They contrasted. So she has been removed from where she originated, because of fear from that black dot. But her fans still have her in their hearts. And they're starting to act.
All this outrage. It's not just because the scene. It's because it's essence. It's meaning. She was the connection between fans and creators. A beautiful connection that has been shattered. Destroyed.
Everyone has their own opinion, so I won't try to convince you with this. I don't want to argue over this, either. I'm just giving away my opinion. But I'd like to make you think a little about what I said. because it may be more of a big deal that it seems.
I agree with you for the most part except on the idea that it destroys the connection between the creators and fans. Derpy's cameo was the creators' way of saying to the community "Thanks for watching our show. We know you guys are out there and we love you. Here, have a short scene with one of the top favorite fan characters!" Yes the scene may be changed now but it doesn't negate the intent of the original act. Besides the original cut is out there on the internet, and the internet is forever.
Derpy will still be seen in the background in episodes to come so while she may not get a speaking role again she's far from gone. It also doesn't mean that they won't try other shoutouts in the future.
To those depressed by this turn of events I would like to say one thing. This doesn't mean the show creaters don't care about us. They didn't need to add "Derpy" into the show in the first place, let alone a small speaking role. They did it because they love their fans and we love them. This edit doesn't change the fact that they went out of their way to give a shoutout to the brony community.
So please to all out there, don't give into hate or despair. Please don't allow anger to cloud your judgement. There is no need to feel betrayed because they honestly didn't promise anything nor were we entitled to it. Her scene was a gift freely given to us and we should be thankful we got it in the first place. The change is unfortuneate, maybe even unjust, but I would ask all of us to remember the spirit the original was given in.
Now is the time in which we must act apon the tolerence part of our pledge to love and tolerate. Though we may not be happy about it, whats done is done and we must simply move on. This situation, of course, isn't a total loss. The original scene still exists out there and availible for rewatching. This dark chapter in our fandom may have ended on a low note but it's not the final chapter by far. There is still so much more pony to be had in the episodes to come. We must now keep strong and carry on into a brighter tomorrow filled with joy, and the Magic of Friendship.
